Well 5:00 a.m. rolls around this morning and Brandon's alarm goes off and I was not a happy camper because I kept waking up during the night, but of course Brandon is ready and rearing to go. I on the other hand kept reminding myself that I bought a deer tag and I didn't want to waste the money. I got up and headed towards Rockland Idaho to go hunting with Brandon, his Dad (Vern), and his brother Radlee. It started out as a pretty good hike, nothing too bad, but then it started to rain and right off the bat we got soaked. So we waited under a tree while Brandon headed back to get to school. We waited under the tree for quite awhile until the rain stopped for at least a little while and started to head down to the valley a little. Radlee walked up a little to try and scare any deer that could be in the brush and trees, while Vern and I headed down on the other side of Radlee. Then all of a sudden I looked over and I was sure I saw something so I hit Vern in the arm and said "Vern is that a deer does it have horns? Quick get your binoculars!" I was so excited and nervous all at the same time. And sure enough it was a buck. We had no idea how big it was because it was laying down with the butt towards us and his head turned around looking right at us. So Vern and I got down and he helped me figure out where to focus to shoot him and I shot. I got him the first shot but only wounded him. I broke his leg and it went through his gut. He got up and ran so I shot two more times and missed then he layed down under a tree with the brush in front of him and at first we couldn't see him but we knew he couldn't have gone too far because his leg was broken. Then we spotted him and got down again and he was laying down looking straight at us. I aimed for his head and shot him right in the throat. It was so awesome, but we still didn't know what size I got until Radlee went up to it and he started cheering and said that it is huge. I really don't know what huge is, but all I do know is that it was a 4 point buck with a 23 3/4 inch spread and Brandon is so proud of me. And to be honest I am pretty proud of myself because I was borrowing my Dad's .243 rifle and I think the last time I shot it was when I was 12 and the last time I actually shot a gun was right after Brandon and I got married and we only shot at pop cans. Anyway I had a lot of fun even though we got soaked and that I got it at the beginning of the season so now I'm done and I don't need to try and find a baby sitter every weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped out and thanks again Dad for letting me borrow your gun and taking such good care of it and sighting it in for me. Love ya all!
